„КОЖНА ВІРУЮЧА ДУША НАРОДЖУЄ СЛОВО БОЖЕ ”

Святитель Амвросій Медіоланський – один зі Святих Угодників Божих, над життям і трудами застановлялємось у час Різдвяного Посту (його день припадає 20-го грудня за юліанським календарем – після Святого Миколая).

Описуючи Євангелію від Св. Луки він розповів, як Архангел Гавриїл, заохочуючи Пречисту повірити в те, що від неї народиться Спаситель світу, вказав на те, що її двоюрідна сестра Єлисавета, яка була старшого віку і досі неплідною зачала в утробі 6 місяців до того часу. І коли Марія відвідала її дитятко, Іван Предтеча, скокнув з радості в утробі Єлисавети. Присутність Господа Ісуса, Який тількищо зачав Своє земне життя в утробі Богородиці викликало таку благодатну дію в покищо ненародженій дитині. А Єлисавета сповнилась Духом Святим і промовила Марі: “Блаженна Ти, що повірила”

Св. Амвросій поширює відношення цих слів Єлисавети , кажучи своїм читачам: „Ви теж, що повірили – блаженні Кожна душа, що вірить народжує Слово Боже і пізнає Його діла...” Бо ж віра творить нові можливості в нас: ми можемо чинити те, що раніше вважали неможливим. Ми можемо бути щедрими, вдячними, радісними, ласкавими. Ми можемо прощати, лікувати душевні рани, визволяти від розпуки, будувати нові храми душі. Ми можемо самими ставати святими храмами Духа Божого.

Що ж говорив Спаситель, коли Йому сказали, що Його Мати та брати й сестри хотять з Ним порозмовляти? Він сказав: „Моя Мати, брати й сестри – всі, що чинять Волю Отця Мого” Чуємо ми? Вірьмо в Божі Слова Вітаймо Дитятко Боже не тільки устами а й серцем і душею Нехай народжується Воно в нас і від нас Нехай приносить і через нас розширення Божого Царство у світі Амінь.

„BE REALISTIC – SEEK TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE ”

I heard something like these words in a spiritual message delivered in Russian by a speaker whose name I did not catch. They intrigued me in their seeming contradiction for how could one be a realist and seek the impossible at one and the same time I understood these words as a challenge to continually expand our concept as to what we had considered possible up till now as well as to our certainty that we are truly looking at the world realistically.

Indeed the only Being who can truly see things as they really are is God – not we We are limited in our vision by time and space. Why we do not even understand a great deal about the things we see and hear and touch – things we have simply taken for granted. How can we truly think that we are realists? The only true Realist is God Himself, the one creates reality in partnership with His creation, which He governs with infinite Wisdom, while at the same time granting it the freedom and privilege to co-create with Him.

God’s Saints understand this and are able to do much more than regular folks – because they consider nothing to be impossible if it is in God’s will, which they confess, recognize and fulfil. We can find an example in an Italian lady in whose honour the Santa Cabrini Hospital in Montreal was named – where many of our parishioners have found care and healing: Frances Xavier Cabrini, the first American citizen canonized by the Church of Rome (in 1946). She reposed on December 22 (on the Julian Feast of the Conception by St. Anne of the Mother of God), 1917.

Mother Frances was one of 13 children born to the Cabrini family. She was came into the world in Lombardy, Italy in 1850. She was fortunate to receive an education at a time when girls were not usually permitted to obtain one. She was taught by Sisters. But when she applied to join their ranks she was refused due to her fragile health. Yet she did not yield for she felt that this was indeed her vocation. She worked as a volunteer in the orphanage called Home of Providence in Cadagono, Italy, and in 1877 professed her vows in the religious order that ran it. Three years later the orphanage closed. Mother Frances did not relent. With great courage she turned to a new country, America, to lead a new religious order and be a missionary. She arrived in New York in 1889 and began her labours with the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart.

Frances Cabrini passed the rest of her life as a missionary in the U.S.A. and South America. She founded 67 institutions, among them schools, hospitals and orphanages She also worked among the immigrants to America, especially of course the Italians. Her earthly life came to an end in Chicago in one of the hospitals she had founded. She succumbed to malaria. She is honoured as a protectress of immigrants and migrant workers.

Let us learn from the example of saintly people. Let us not fall into despair when we are faced with hard times and failures. Let us see them as fresh opportunities to hold to a good cause, whose worth becomes all the clearer when it is tested by hardships. Or perhaps they offer the occasion to try a new direction, to look to a new horizon, to follow the Lord’s call to “put out upon the deep” and cast our nets for a new catch – not of fish, but of the fruits of devoted, consistent labour for the glory of God and the unfolding of our God-given potential. Let us be realistic and seek to do the impossible
